How to Build a Resume for High School Students

I don’t really have a ton of experience working with high school students. However, this title was a search query that led to my site. High School students need jobs too. Sometimes a resume is required, so here we are:

A good place to start would be to focus on what defines your work ethic. What are your interests? What motivates you? Also, take into account what types of jobs you are looking for. In retail sales for example, experience working with people would be a must have on a resume.

List any previous work experience, if any and your accomplishments in the roles that you have held. Other areas to show knowledge and experience would be any technical hobbies, clubs, organizations and extra curricular achievements.

Since most high school jobs don’t require a resume, this sums up my advice. Looking at the job and summarizing how you would be a fit is the way to go.

If you are interested in the job, be sure to ask for the job at the end of the interview. Normally you will have an open door when the manager asks if you have any additional questions. Once you have answered all of your planned questions, ask for the job: “what do I need to do to get this job?”, “How do I stack up against other applicants you have seen?”.
